(41) NEW SURREY SENIOR WOMEN 100M RECORD

Competing in the WA Continental Tour meeting at Loughborough on 29th July 2023 Imani Lansiquot (Sutton & District) set a new record of 11.01/+1.7. This beat the previous record of 11.03/+1.9 which she set in May. This retains her third place on the UK All-time listings.

(42) EUROPEAN UNDER-20 TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS, JERUSALEM, ISRAEL, 7TH-10TH AUGUST 2023

The following Surrey athletes have been included in the first round of selections for the GB & NI team:-

James Dargan (Aldershot, Farnham & District) - 5000m

In the final round of selections Brook Cronin (Walton) - 200m and Kira Holt (Kingston & Poly) - 100m Hurdles were added to the team.

On Monday, 7th August Kira Holt was placed 7th in Heat 1 (of 4) of the 100m Hurdles with a time of 14.04/+1.4.
On Tuesday, 8th August Brook Cronin won the 3rd Heat (of 4) of the 200m with a time of 20.83/+3.4 to qualify for Wednesday's semi-finals. On Wednesday morning he won the 1st Semi-Final (of 2) with a time of 20.91/+3.2 then in the Final he was 6th with a time of 21.22/+1.0.
On Thursday, 10th August James Dargan finished 4th in the 5000m Final with a time of 14:15.52.

(43) DON WEBB 1936 - 2023

Our Past President Don Webb died on the 9th August 2023. He joined Croydon Harriers with his twin brother Doug in the 1950s. He was a regular competitor in the Surrey Combined Events Championships during the 1960s. Following his competitive career Don became a Field Judge (Doug became a Starter) for 40 years - initially with his club and then as a regular at Surrey County Track & Field Championships. Latterley he became the link person between the club and SCAA when our Cross-Country Championships were held at Lloyd Park. His service to Surrey Athletics was recognised when he became our President in 2008.

Don's funeral will be held at the West Chapel, Croydon Crematorium CR9 3AT at 2:30pm on Thursday, 31st August 2023. The family have requested that anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Don should do so to Croydon Harriers (Registered Charity No 1125648). Donations can be made via SumUp.

(44) COMMONWEALTH YOUTH GAMES, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO, 7TH - 10TH AUGUST 2023

Congratulations to Arabella Wilson (Winchester & District) who was selected to represent England in 400m Hurdles / 4x100m Relay / 4x400m Relay. However, she has sustained an injury which means she will not be taking part.

(45) MIKE TURVEY 1942 - 2023

We regret to announce the death of Mike Turvey, aged 81, on 12th August 2023 in Connecticut, USA where he lived. Mike was a contemporary of Kevin Kelly - they both were members of Herne Hill Harriers and both were triple jumpers and they maintained contact over subsequent years. Mike gained International selection in 1961 against Switzwerland in a fixture held at Wimbledon Park.

(46) WORLD ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, 19TH - 27TH AUGUST 2023

Congratulations to the following Surrey athletes who have been selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland:-

Imani Lansiquot (Sutton & District) - 100m & 4x100m
Katie Snowden (Herne Hill) - 1500m
Jessie Knight (WSEH) - 400m Hurdles & 4x400m

Congratulations to Adelle Tracey (Guildford & Godalming) who has been selected to represent Jamaica in the 800m & 1500m.

RESULTS:-
SATURDAY 19TH AUGUST: Katie and Adelle ran in the first round heats of the 1500m. Katie was 4th in Heat 3 with a time of 4:01.15 and Adelle was 5th in Heat 4 with a time of 4:03.67. Both of them were automatic qualifiers for tomorrow's semi-finals. Lawrence threw the discus 63.66m to finish 6th in Qualification Pool A - this was not sufficient to qualify for Monday's Final - he was 14th out of a total of 35 competitors across the 2 pools.
SUNDAY 20TH AUGUST: Katie and Adelle were both drawn to run in the 2nd (of 2) Semi-Final. Katie was 5th in 3:56.72 (A NEW SURREY RECORD) and Adelle was 7th in 3:58.77 (this also beat the previous record of 4:00.04). As qualification for Tuesday's Final was the first 6, only Katie got through. However, Adelle is also entered in the 800m for which the heats are on Wednesday morning. Katie's time places her second on the UK All-time listing. In the 100m Heat 5 Imani was disqualified for a false start.
MONDAY 21ST AUGUST: Jessie won the 5th (of 5) heat of the 400m Hurdles with a time of 54.27 to qualify for Tuesday's semi-finals.
TUESDAY 22ND AUGUST: Jessie was 4th in the first (of 3) semi-final with a time of 54.51 which was not sufficient for her to qualify for the Final. In the 1500m final Katie finished in eigth place with a time of 3:59.65.
WEDNESDAY 23RD AUGUST: Adelle ran in the 4th (of 7) heat of the 800m. She was 2nd with a season's best time 1:59.82 to qualify for the semi-finals to be held on Friday.
FRIDAY 25TH AUGUST: Morgan cleared 1.92m to finish 4th in Qualification Group A to qualify for Sunday's Final. In the 800m Adelle was 4th in the 3rd semi-final (of 3) setting a personal best of 1:58.99 to qualify for Sunday's Final. In the 1st heat of the 4x100m relay Imani ran the second leg for the GB team which finished 2nd with a time of 42.33 to qualify for Saturday's final.
SATURDAY 26TH AUGUST: In the final of the 4x100m relay Imani ran the 2nd leg for the team which finished third with a time of 41.97.
SUNDAY 27TH AUGUST: Adelle was 7th in the 800m final with a personal best time of 1:58.41. Morgan was 4th in the High Jump with 1.97m.

(47) EA U15/U17 TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS, BIRMINGHAM, 26TH/27TH AUGUST 2023

SURREY U15B JAVELIN RECORD SET BY LUCAS DE LA TOUCHE
Lucas de la Touche (Walton AC) set a new record of 52.85m. The previous record of 52.06m was set by Tony Francis (Woking AC) in 1997.

(48) KEVIN KELLY 1942 - 2023

We regret to announce the death of Kevin Kelly, aged 81, on 27th August 2023. Kevin was a long-standing member of Herne Hill Harriers having joined them at the age of 12. There is a full tribute on the Herne Hill Harriers website. Kevin's Surrey profile (link below) shows that he contested the Surrey County Triple Jump either as a Junior or a Senior on 23 occasions being champion 4 times. In addition he had less numerous attempts at the Decathlon, Long Jump and Discus championships.

Competing in the GalĂ  dei Castelli meeting at Belinzona, Switzerland on 4th September 2023 Imani Lansiquot (Sutton & District) set a new record of 10.99/0.0. This beat the previous record of 11.01/+1.7 which she set in July. This retains her third place on the UK All-time listings.

(54) PETER MILNER 1939 - 2023

We regret to announce the death of Peter Milner, aged 83, on 13th September 2023. Peter, and his twin brother Tony, were members of Walton AC and were regulars at our County Championships from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. Peter won the Youths 1 Mile title in 1956, the Junior Men 1 Mile in 1958 and the Senior Men 880 Yards in 1962.
